29 March, 2008 (10:14) | Ebay And Auctions | By: Ade Martin

Yet again eBay makes another controversial decision when it decides to kick out all it’s sellers dealing in downloadable digital products.

This isn’t just about eBay getting rid of the crap eBooks, and we know there is a ton of those, but this actually hurts many hundreds of good honest people and businesses who have spent time and money building up a good service to repeat customers.

Lets take an overall look at what is happening and how we can fix it.

Private Label Rights And Resale Rights Memberships Investigated

11 March, 2008 (03:19) | PLR And Resale Rights | By: Ade Martin

The last couple of months I have been concentrating on a few projects which have taken up a huge amount of my time.

I have been running 2 eBay stores, one with digital products and one with physical products to make a side by side comparison of which one works the best. This in itself was a total waste of time from a business, (i.e. money), point of view as you cannot split your time like this and make any sort of comparison. They are 2 entirely separate businesses. It was not a waste of time from an education point of view though!

Selling physical products is great because it gets you away from the computer!

LinksManager Is A Pro Link Building Tool For Consideration

14 August, 2007 (09:50) | SEO Stuff | By: Ade Martin

Whenever I see a Links program it always perks my interest. Mainly this is because we hardly ever devote as much time to building quality links as we should. If you are a Google fanatic, like most people, we like to think that the hard work we put into writing unique articles is time well spent. That is until Google has a tantrum and for reasons known only to itself point blank refuses to recognize most, some or all of your links.

A Look At WebCockpit 1.0

25 July, 2007 (22:37) | Online Biz News And Views | By: Ade Martin

I thought a review on the system, which I use myself, would be useful for anybody wanting to turn, not just their business, but their lives around at the same time. That may seem like a bold statement but I have just finished doing the Daily Praxis, no it’s not a chant, and it’s really easy to concentrate on the important tasks for today – far more effective than a To Do list.

SwitchPlanet.com Reviewed

19 July, 2007 (00:26) | Web2.0 | By: Ade Martin

I was asked to do a review for SwitchPlanet.com and my first reaction was not another Social Website. Don’t get me wrong I love the whole concept of Social Networking but lately there has been an influx of copy cats trying to get in on the act with nothing original to offer.

Thankfully SwitchPlanet is not one of these and I guess you could call it a Social Networking Ebay type site for DVDs, CDs, Games and Books if that makes any sense! Here’s the basics.

Beware Of Do Gooders Offering Business Advice

24 June, 2007 (00:52) | Online Biz News And Views | By: Ade Martin

Hi,

How often have you seen a reply on a forum, and there are many like this, which usually start off something like “I’m not an expert at this but I think you should…”

The whole point of participating in a forum, apart from ethically using your signature of course, is to either learn from people who know what they are talking about or to offer proper advice to someone in need of help.

The response from the Do Gooder is obviously well meant but is probably the result of them having either read about the topic in an ebook somewhere, (how dodgy is that!!?), or seen similar on a forum – equally dodgy in a lot of cases.

The problem is that the Do Gooders have no experience to appraise the initial information, they more than likely haven’t tested it out themselves so in their good natured rush to help you out you are being given bogus information.

There are many forums around that have very few experienced contributors. This works for you in as much as the Do Gooder, with his or her inexperience, is more likely to buy from your signature.

I don’t mean this to sound as if you have to go out and prey on the inexperienced, (although it now appears to be an “ethical and accepted” business practice), as you should always promote products you have personally used and feel good about letting others buy.

So go forth and use the forums to your advantage. Sell your wares, become more educated and offer only personally experienced advice to others.

8 Essential WordPress Plugins For SEO

9 May, 2007 (00:59) | SEO Stuff, Wordpress Plugins | By: Ade Martin

1. Google Sitemap WordPress Plugin - Absolutely essential. When I first installed this Google was showing 3 pages of my site. Within 12 hours it had indexed 47.

2. Add Meta Tags WordPress Plugin - Meta Keywords and Meta Description are added automatically. The good thing is that you will have different data for each page as it uses page content for the tags. It also uses the category(ies) as keywords. You should be optimizing your categories anyway, (ie check the word or phrase has search volume), but this is a reminder to make the names topic relevant.

Free Niche Keyword Research Video

30 April, 2007 (16:20) | Free Internet Marketing Videos | By: Ade Martin

We have just released a new . This is the first in what is going to be a long line of quality, free that will let people implement strategies straight away without having to spend money on yet more Internet Marketing products.

The information is always great quality, the video and audio quality will improve as we go through a short learning curve and become more used to this medium :-)

We also welcome suggestions as to what short informative videos you would like us to make for you so ask away.

If you are optimizing for Google then it really does pay to let Google tell you which keywords and it considers important enough to index your website.

This is no secret strategy on this video but it is little used because a few additional steps are required compared to a normal keyword search but it does result in highly targeted key phrases.

Don’t forget to join our Tips And Tricks newsletter and we’ll let you know when we release new content.

Updated Blog And RSS Feed Directories For Your Blog

24 April, 2007 (13:39) | Blog Stuff | By: Ade Martin

If anybody has suggestions on more good directories please leave a comment with some info.

Here’s the result of yesterdays submissions to Blog Directories And RSS Feed Directories.

Some blog directories require a link back.

If you haven’t downloaded the Authority Black Book yet then you should as it is one of the references I am using for the practical steps I am demonstrating to you about setting up your blog for Web2.0. The link is on the right of the blog.

One thing I don’t agree with in the ABB is the Ping List. Using Pingomatic together with all the other sites means that just about everyone will be pinged twice. In case you didn’t know Pingomatic is a service where you can select up to 15 blogs to ping at one time. If you are doing this manually from their website you are able to select/deselect which sites you want but using Pingomatic as an auto ping in your blog could well result in spamming with the possibility of being banned. Banning is can be just for a short time but what’s the point?

Also consider that if you don’t have the WordPress plugin, WP-Cron Future Pings, which limits post pings to only when published then you could well be doing multiple pings every time you edit the post.

Additionally the list contained a ping for an Indian only site, one premium site and another where I couldn’t find a ping url to use.

I believe that IceRocket also pings multiple sites but I can’t locate the list. If anybody has this info please post.

My updated Ping List is:

blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2
api.moreover.com/RPC2
blog.goo.ne.jp/XMLRPC
blogdb.jp/xmlrpc/
coreblog.org/ping/
ping.bloggers.jp/rpc/
ping.cocolog-nifty.com/xmlrpc
pinger.blogflux.com/rpc
api.moreover.com/ping
ping.blo.gs
ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php
ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php
rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger
rpc.icerocket.com:10080
rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
topicexchange.com/RPC2Topic
blogdigger.com/RPC2
xping.pubsub.com/ping
api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping

I submitted to the following Blog Directories:

Bloguniverse.com – Requires Back link. Problem with login procedure. Waiting for reply from support.
Blogarama.com – Requires Back link.
Bloghop.com
Memigo.com
Daypop.com
globeofblogs.com
My.Yahoo.com

OK, that’s what I’ve done so far. We still need to find more good blog directories to submit to and make a list of story sites, like Digg, we can submit our post to when done.

Feel free to leave comments.

Web2.0, Blogging, Tagging And Being Social

23 April, 2007 (04:36) | Web2.0 | By: Ade Martin

Well after a complete mind dump yesterday with Web2.0 and trying to work out the most efficient way to write a blog post taking into account SEO and Social sites I went to bed totally fried.

The good news is this morning it all seems a lot clearer.

Understanding the WP Plugins was a challenge mainly because the help file jargon is not at a basic level. For instance if you have little idea what Web2.0, Social sites, tagging and Technorati is all about then the help is meaniingless.

I think a short video will help others in my situation a lot so I’ll put this on my To Do list which never seems to get any shorter.

The WP Plugins Ultimate Tag Warrior and Tagalize It are useful at a basic level but they still need more time to be learned as I am sure they have a whole array of features but I don’t have a week to dedicate to 2 plugins unfortunately.

It appears that UTW is useful for Internal tags within your blog as it will link all tagged posts together and present all the posts relating to that tag when a reader clicks on one of the tags.

Tagalize It enables you to tag words and phrases wihin your article content with a link to either self, Technorati or IceRocket.

An excellent website is OnlyWire which enables you to submit a post to 15 bookmarking sites, such as Del.icio.us, Furl and so on, and also gives you a neat piece of code for your readers to “vote up” your article to the sites.

This is what the code looks like in a post and if my article has been of interest or of any use to you please vote for it.
Add to Onlywire

Our mindset nowadays if we really want to get into the Web2.0 “thang” is for us to make a conscious effort to be more “Social” by applauding sites givinging us good content and ignoring sites which contribute nothing to the way we would like the Internet to be. This will have a far reaching effect on scam and other rip off sites because in the future without votes nobody will see them.

The other site relating to tagging which is very useful is the Evil Genius Tag maker which is free.

http://www.egmstrategy.com/ice/tag-generator.cfm

This will “Technorati -ize” your tags and also provide linking buttons to some Social sites. You will see this in action at the bottom of this post.

So, do we have to go through the rigramole of using 3rd party plugins for our tagging endeavors or is a copy paste action enough?

Let’s see what we are doing exactly. Let’s get B-A-S-I-C!

  • BBlog – Must Have One Of These. A lot of platforms to choose from. Each blogger will have their own preference – mine happens to be WordPress hosted on my own server.
  • AApplaud (Vote For) Good Content Sites. Gives the owner more incentive to provide us with even more great content.
  • S - Social Bookmarking Is Great. It works to everyones advantage and rewards the “good guys” as Harrison Ford may say.
  • I - Ignore Scam And “Gimme Your Money” Sites. Nothing wrong with
making a living online but far too many sites are either posing as review sites or other underhand methods to trick you.
  • CCHOICE! Web2.0 gives us almost limitless choice. Not just bookmarking sites but story/article sites, picture sites, video sites, community sites, marketing and advertising sites, news sites – you get the drift? OK.

At the moment I will go with Ultimate Tag Warrior for my internal tagging coupled with OnlyWire and EGM. My Ping list is good so now all that needs to be done is to submit my blog to the main blog directories, RSS Feed directories and find additional popular sites to maximize my web presence for this blog.

Video here we come…

Tomorrow I will post a list of the important directories I have used for you to copy and visit.

I will keep you updated on my progress. Leave comments, suggestions and requests before you leave.

Bye for now.

This Is Just A Tag Test For WP Plugins And OnlyWire

22 April, 2007 (02:32) | Online Biz News And Views | By: Ade Martin

Let’s test a few tags and see what happens.

I am testing 2 WP Plugins namely Tagalize It and Ultimate Tag Warrior.

UTW as a seems to be reasonably straight forward but Tagalize It is not manifesting itself to me – probably because am dumb!

Ok, I am dumb… I had to put a closing tag when using Tagalize It!

Here comes the OnlyWire code…

Add to Onlywire

Right, let’s see how this works out.

Ade

Update, UTW is NOT straightforward. More evaluating to do but comparing it with EvilGenius at the moment. Here is EGM code…

Affiliate Products – How Much Is Too Much.

20 April, 2007 (10:31) | Online Biz News And Views | By: Ade Martin

It’s a continual bombardment of nowadays.

On the one hand we need to be on peoples because they did promise us unique downloads, expert information and the latest news when we signed up to receive their ezines didn’t they?

The reality is a never ending stream of which do range from absolute BS to great info but is generally way too expensive. The latest $497 “Can’t Fail” course will in all probability… fail.

Anyhow, I have written a report called “Haven’t You Spent Enough Damn Money On Affiliate Products Already?”. Just click the title.

Google Adwords And Overture – Food For Thought

11 April, 2007 (00:09) | Adwords | By: Ade Martin

Just a brief breakfast thought.

Typing a search term into Overture will give you a vast amount of results. This doesn’t mean you can just put all these results into an Adwords campaign and make a shedful of cash.

If it was that easy everybody would be driving a Roller… or 2.

If you are new to the PPC game then research it thoroughly and then test with what you can afford to lose because the chances are your first few campaigns will lose money – it’s a learning curve.

Even better, find an Adwords expert and have them go through your first campaign with you.

Back to my coffee.

Marketing Tips Derek Gehl Talks Great Sense

29 March, 2007 (02:02) | Online Biz News And Views | By: Ade Martin

I have been considering writing a post on this very subject for a while now and this morning received a great email from Dereck Gehl of www.marketingtips.com fame and I could not have put it better myself.

Here’s what he had to say…

“Here’s why I’m so steamed:

This morning when I first arrived at the office, I did what I always do. I checked my email to see what all the other online marketing “experts” were up to. (I’ve got to keep an eye on the competition, after all.)

And — as always — what did I find?
A bunch of emails from different marketers all promoting the EXACT same product — and all claiming it’s the greatest thing to hit the world of Internet marketing since — well, since the Internet.

But you know what? Most — if not ALL — of these self-proclaimed “gurus” have never even actually tried the product they’re trying so hard to sell you!

And I’ve got to tell you, I am SICK of being swamped by emails like this. I’m sick of being sold the exact same product a million different ways — by people who’ve never actually experienced any real success with it.

Where’s the value? How’s this helping anyone???

Now, don’t get me wrong. There are some really great Internet marketers out there… True experts I respect enormously, who sell top-quality products that they themselves have used to achieve phenomenal success.

But when I’m sent 12 different emails a DAY — all selling the latest and greatest marketing fad that’s supposedly “revolutionized” the way these so-called experts do business, even when you know they probably couldn’t even tell you how the darned thing actually works — well, my blood just starts to BOIL.”

Absolutely. Spot on Derek.

Most of us are getting brassed of with continual begging emails each trying to outdo each other with bonuses and not giving us any quality information which is why we signed up to their list anyway. Of course we appreciate there is a back end along the line but it would be more professional to keep the “good information / buy this product” see-saw a bit more balanced.

Writing Articles. Content And The Google Interpretation.

26 March, 2007 (08:00) | Article Stuff, Online Biz News And Views, SEO Stuff | By: Ade Martin

Article Content Evolution is with us.

The way we have been writing articles, you know from keyword stuffing, (we’ve all done it), to judging a keyword / keyphrase density and hoping it’s just right for Google is on the way out.

Semantics, the page theme, contextual relevance, phrase matching and seeing if you’ve included those little words and phrases that are specific to whatever niche you are writing about, (eg surfers have a language of their own), will all go toward the relevancy Google will place on your article before it is included in the index.

Don’t worry about Yahoo and MSN. They are still indexing just about everything published on the Net so keep using using the meta tags and other traditional procedures.

It may be the case that before long even the use of the title tag, heading tag and the filename may not be necessary for the purposes of “assisting” Google into what our content is about.

A brief thought but one of relevance… before the days of programmers, algorithms and LSI I am sure we used to write topical and contextually relevant content to give a good “user experience” anyway! See what article spinners have done to us?

Beware No Follow Links In Article Directories

15 March, 2007 (06:54) | Article Stuff, SEO Stuff | By: Ade Martin

Just a quick heads up if you are submitting articles to article directories for SEO purposes. It is worth checking out whether or not they apply a nofollow tag to all outgoing links. One site, as of today, is Searchwarp.com. All the anchor text links in their articles are nofollow.

Waste of time submitting. Good for their PR but no link love for us honeys!

To check for nofollows either View Source or get the SEO Bar addon for FireFox.

Server Side Includes – Easy Way To Update Specified Content In ALL Your Web Pages

15 March, 2007 (00:48) | 5 Minute How-To's | By: Ade Martin

Here’s a a powerful and simple way to be able to update any specified content across a whole range of pages on your web site.

An example would be a changeable navigation menu across hundreds of pages. Just change 1 file instead of hundreds!

As long as your host has SSI, Server Side Includes, enabled this is a breeze.

Al that needs to be done is to name your .html page .shtml and use the following:

Assuming you want to have a footer with your site navigation menu on it called footer.php – (you need to know nothing about php for this!)

Copy your site nav menu html code and paste it into a blank document in your text editor and name it footer php. No need to use < html > < /html > or body tags – just paste and save the nav menu code.

On the pages where you wish to have your nav menu just put:

If you already have existing .html pages and don’t wish to change the file extension – perhaps it’s a mature page already indexed by the SE’s – then simply create a .htaccess file in the same directory as the page with the following:

AddHandler server-parsed .html

Note: this will probably work but your host may have another command.
