Wowzza Social Network - To Spam Or Not To Spam |
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I have started receiving spam on a daily basis from a couple of Wowzza members and like most people I really detest spam.
It is difficult to find any excuse nowadays for sending out junk email because even the newest newbie is aware of spam and they know it is wrong and is a big No No on the Internet.
So, enter those pathetic individuals who think they’re “Oh so smart!”, and want to bypass all the rules to make money from their offensive spam emails. These people do not want to build a business that involves responsibility and customer support they just want the money from you now.
The people sending out the Wowzza spam are using the email CC function to load in a couple of hundred addresses so they are making our emails visible to everyone. Whatever happened to our Wowzza privacy agreement?
I emailed Wowzza management on the 21st April but have received no reply and the spam continues. Please don’t tell me my email ended up in the spam folder which is the reason for not replying! That would, almost, be funny.
So, if you are receiving Wowzza spam and would like
to voice an opinion please leave your comments below.
Ade
PS The spam still continues as I received 4 more today. Here they are:

[Comment from Ade: This is beyond belief. These are the people spamming us from the Wowzza membership!]
I found a few great articles related to this topic.
Wowzza Disappointing - Members were bombarded by spam in their in-boxes and the latest greatest pre-launches. Something had to be done. Now members are limited to 50 bulk mail messages per day. Incidentally Wowzza is extremely slow, but I’m sure that this …
Wowzza is mlm crap and everyone knows it! - They bought into the same lie and joined Wowzza to target other networkers. They’re going to spam out their opportunity to everyone on Wowzza. So Wowzza is going to be full of spam. 2. Wowzza has an income opportunity and powerline …
Why SPAM will destroy your reputation online by Rex Harris - When you have the ability to take someone into a community like MySpace, Direct Matches, Wowzza, NING… or any of the others, and show them how to generate traffic, leads and sales, then you will have the power to build an organization …

Hi Ade… I have to say that I’m pretty relaxed over so called spamming. I have a good email filter which takes most of them and the few that get into my in-box I usually delete. Thing is amongst the ’spam’ there can on occassion be some useful stuff!! I’ve not found the membership of Wowzza to be at all troublesome and I guess I have only rec’d a couple of emails direct - the rest coming as ‘messages’ within wowzza. I’d rather have all the advantages offered by the Wowzza Community and put-up with a few direct emails than to lose the advantage of being able to communicate with each other; surely that’s what we’re about?
Not to be contraversial but in truth the email you sent to me can be said to be ’spam’ as it was unsolicited. But as I say I’m not unduly concerned about spam….I would rather hear from people than get nothing!! Perhaps being in a Community is NOT a good idea for those people who find this to be an issue. Best regards, Roger
== Added by Ade: Thanks for the post Roger but I must say I am more than a little surprised whilst fully respecting your right to have a relaxed attitude over spam and even on occasion find some useful stuff.
The email I sent to the people on the list was a one time email with information only. There was no commercial intent and there certainly won’t be any follow up.
“Perhaps being in a Community is NOT a good idea for those people who find this to be an issue.” Hmm. You must also respect my right to be a part of a community, (especially at $30 per month), and NOT receive unsolicited commercial emails. Wowzza is not meant to be some sort of freebie safe list.
I run many web sites and have done so for many years and, from experience, I will tell you that spam is a big issue. Most website owners, myself included are so inundated with uce we can no longer reliably use email as a means of communication with our clients but have to use help desk software. My email filters pick up over 500 spam emails every single day and the probability of me deleting a clients email is sky high hence the help desk. ==
Once again Roger, many thanks for your post

I am disappointed with those who are spamming by means of Wowzza. From what I understand, Wowzza will shut down any account that spams other members. If we keep reporting those individuals to Wowzza, they will be stopped in their tracks. I have been receiving those same emails you have listed above. I know Wowzza takes this matter seriously and they will tend to it soon.
Thanks for the update!

I too have received these emails! In fact, I have received those exact emails and some others. I’ve just been deleting them, but it is ridiculous that Wowzza will no do anything about this. Giving our email addresses out is surely against their privacy policy. I don’t know for sure though. I think this would be grounds for cancelling my account.

I realy hate it when these kind of things happen. People seem to use my email and then ( i understand the complaining)why you are posting my email adress again so I will receive even more spam.
== Added By Ade - Theo, I would never post your email address so that others can see it. The spammer had shown your email address to everyone because they simply used their email CC, (Carbon Copy), function to send the spam email. I used the BCC, (Blind Carbon Copy), to inform everyone but individuals can not see your email address. ==

Hi,
I get over 200 spam emails a day into my main account and spend around 5minutes everyday deleting them out. it is annnoying butI dont let it worry me. I think what concerns me most is getting objectionable spam, that is the viagra and porn spam that comes through. This is in my opinion is the offensive part.

How do i stop spam to my main site Internet Marketing Tools
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Added By Ade: Thanks for the comment. If you are using a “catch all” for your domain email the first thing to do is to stop this. Only add specific emails through CPanel that you need. Most of the junk will then just get dumped without you having to see it.
Secondly you can use a filtering system like Mailwasher Pro. (firetrust.com I think) I just tend to use Gmail mostly because their filters are so good, unlike Yahoo and MSN, I have very, very few legit emails tagged as spam. (maybe 5 over the past year)
Hope this helps - Ade
